This session will provide an overview of essential design elements for interactive data sites. Topics covered will include user typologies, hardware and software concerns, html coding of forms, and an overview of the Common Gateway Interface. Individuals may select just the morning workshop or attend both parts of this workshops series (See Workshop C) |

The Data Documentation Initiative in all its glory. This workshop will review the background and foundation of the DDI, cover the essential elements of the format and structure of the DTD, and explore the practical applications at ICPSR, Essex and in Europe. |

This session will explore using PERL (Practical Extraction and Report Language) to connect your data to the Web. Elements of a CGI toolkit for connecting the Web to SPSS will be demonstrated. Individuals should attend the morning workshop (See Worskhop A) in preparation for these topics. |

Workshop D: Interacting with Large Data Sets. Al Anderson and John Blodgett. Using the PDQ-Explore System and the Uexplore WWW Application, this workshop will examine various means of accessing and exploring very large data sets over the Internet. The session will include hands-on use of both systems and the opportunity to discuss the pro's and con's of each approach in various user environments. |
